1 year vegetarian anniversary

It has been a year since I ate meat, and I can hardly believe it, but I did it! Here are some of my reasons for completely eliminating meat from my diet. For more medical explanation about this topic, I would recommend the documentary Forks over Knives.

1)  Better health

Meat is the largest  source of saturated fats in our diets. Eliminating meat from your diet will therefore reduce the risk of dying from heart disease and even cancer!

2) Go green Go clean

More veggies = clean body. Both on the inside and the out. Eliminating meat from your diet leaves more room for fruits and veggies, which are good for your health. I noticed how happy I became when I changed my diet. I felt more energetic and my mood changed.

3) Good conscience

It is only when I stopped eating meat that I really started to value animal life. I stopped using makeup and products tested on animals, after watching Earthlings. I felt guilty for all the times I ignorantly supported animal cruelty.  “For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other.” – Pythagoras.

This has truly been an educational journey for me. I have learned a lot about myself, I have learned to value animal life, I have become more heathy and more happy!

Today I am thankful….

How often do we pause to appreciate what we have in life? Today I am thankful for the life I have. Thankful for the little things that make it great, like a nice hot cup of tea or waking up to a “Good morning” text. Thankful for the big things, like the battles that I have had to and still have to fight, because without those battles, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Thankful for my family and the people in my life, because they have all taught me something important about life. Thankful for the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, because they remind me that each day is an opportunity for me to make my dreams come true. Take a couple of minutes today to appreciate what you have in life. Lets remember not to take life for granted, because each day is a gift.

5 very inspiring quotes

Here is a list of quotes that I guarantee will never fail to inspire you, but rather motivate you.

1) The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

2) Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow. – Unknown

3) Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life. It’s about what you inspire others to do. – Unknown

4) Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful. -Annette Funicello

5) Only those who will risk going too far can possibly fin out how far one can go. – T.S. Eliot

The importance of a SMILE

One smile can make all the difference in the world. One smile has the power to release stress, calm you down, make you attractive, make someone else happy and believe it or not, smiling can actually cause happiness. This is why “Smile at Life” has become my personal motto.

1) Release stress & Calm down

Stress is hazardos to your health! When you let your stress levels continually in cress without doing anything to prevent it, you will eventually breakdown. And when you do eventually breakdown, it will take you a long time to put yourself back together again. However, a smile is the cheapest and fastest cure. When you feel stressed, just take a minute or two to breathe in and out and smile. There is always something to smile about in life. Always!

2) Attractive

“A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear” – Unknown. This is absolutely true. Whether you are female or male, a smile is all you need to complete your beauty! I have always said: “There is nothing more attractive than a man with a smile!” (in my case). Besides, smiling also shows people that you are a positive person and easy to get along with.

3) Be someones sunshine

Fact: smiling is contagious. We all have our own battles to fight. Each one of us! And sometimes all a person needs a smile to reassure them that everything will be OKAY (because it will be). Maybe one smile can reassure that girl who sits beside in class, that someone sees her. That someone actually cares. Maybe one smile to a stranger you walk by in town today, is all it will take to turn that rainy cloud hanging over him into a bright shining sun.

4) Great social network

As mentioned above, a smile is the most welcoming gesture. Who knows what one smile can lead to? I have personally meet a lot of amazing people using this method. Just one smile. That is all it takes.

5) Happiness

According to the research papers I have read about smiling, scientist actually have proff that smiling can cause happiness. It is only natural that we smile when we are happy and frown when we are sad/mad. What if we tried to smile a lot more often? What would happen then?

A smile might seem like a simple act that we often take for granted. But a smile is a lot more than just a line that appears across our faces when we are happy. Keep these reasons in mind, and always remember to smile!

I come bearing GOOD NEWS!

I finally gathered enough courage to send my application to the American College of Norway a little over a week ago. I came home on Thursday and there it was! On the table with other mail. A letter from the school! I was extremely nervous to the point where I could barley open the letter because my hands were shaking!

Dear Nardos Tekle:

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I, on behalf of the Board of Directors, notify you of your acceptance to the American College of Norway for the year 2013/2014.

It took me three hours to finally calm down! This is all I needed to get me through the remaining three months filled with exams, projects and essays. I am over the moon!
